Counselling Techniques

I work within a feminist client centred framework (which just means I look for strengths, advocate for the under dog, look for different  perspectives, chalenge negative thinking; not only focusing on the immediate crisis or issue, but looking at the big picture - now we know what needs to change, how does this look in 5 days/months/ or years?).  I utilise Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Trauma Focussed CBT, Narrative Therapy, Creative and Play Therapy, I am fairly flexible and will always try to meet you, the client where you are (use the therapy that works for you).

Your privacy is important to me.  Your information and information shared in session is completely confidential.  It will not be shared with anyone without your written request or consent.

However, there are limits to confidentiality of which you should be aware.  My professional and personal values mean that I am a mandatory reporter (especially when a child is involved).  This means if i feel that you are putting yourself, a child or another in danger, or you share details about someone who is in danger, I will need to report and gain assistance to stop the abuse.  If at all able, we will discuss how you would like me to proceed; for example, if [you are not the perpetrator of violence] and we need to report, you may wish to report and have me support your report, you may feel more comfortable if I report while you are present, or if I report without you.
